ElevenLabs Now Clones Your Voice in Real Time

ElevenLabs has added real-time voice cloning to its platform, meaning your cloned voice can now be used during live audio — not just in pre-rendered outputs. Previously, voice cloning on ElevenLabs worked for generated audio files only. You'd upload samples, create a clone, and export finished audio. Now, the cloned voice works with latency low enough for live use cases: live streaming, real-time dubbing, and voice-powered applications built on their API. The feature is available to Creator tier subscribers and above, which starts at $22 per month. Free and Starter tier users do not get access. API access for developers building real-time voice applications requires a paid plan, and usage is metered on top of the subscription cost. This is not a minor tweak — real-time cloning is technically harder than batch cloning and opens up entirely different use cases, including live customer service bots, real-time translation with a user's own voice, and interactive media. It also raises the obvious concern: live voice cloning is a more immediate fraud and impersonation vector than file-based cloning, and ElevenLabs' existing safeguards — consent verification, voice rights agreements — have never been independently audited for real-world effectiveness.

What changed

Voice cloning moved from file-output-only to real-time, live audio. Available on Creator plan ($22/month) and above. API access is metered separately on top of subscription fees.

Who this affects

Developers building voice AI apps, live streamers, dubbing professionals, and anyone needing a cloned voice in live contexts benefit. Free and Starter users are locked out entirely.

Our take

Real-time voice cloning is genuinely useful and genuinely dangerous, and ElevenLabs asking users to self-certify consent is not the same as actually enforcing it.

Based on ElevenLabs platform announcements and published pricing tiers. Independent audit of safety measures has not been conducted.
