Google AI Overviews Hits 100+ Countries
Google AI Overviews is now live in over 100 countries and territories, up from its US-only launch in May 2024. The feature, which places an AI-generated summary at the top of search results, is rolling out in new languages including Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Indonesian, and more — with additional languages promised before end of year. The expansion is free for all users; no Google One subscription required. On the backend, Google says it has reduced AI Overview appearances for queries where they add little value — an acknowledgment that early rollout produced low-quality, sometimes embarrassing results like suggesting users eat rocks or add glue to pizza.
